I haven't, but sounds like a great idea.
I custom built my stand and canopy. I have a 135g. The canopy has two long doors on the face that match the ones on that stand. These are used for feeding. For the top, I built the frame and put the lid on a long piano hinge. When I need to open, I open the fron doors used for feeding and stick my hand in there to lift the lid enough so that I can grab it from the top. I open it just like any other lid and then I have a kick stand in the corner just like the hood of most cars. This way I can reach all of the T-5 lighting for changin g out the bulb, maintenance etc. When not in the canopy fiddling with the lights, nobody can tell the lid is hinged and keeps the canopy looking like a nice piece of furniture.
I built my stand and canopy a little deeper front to back to hide the return plumbing. My balyst are mounted to the back of my canopy, keeping everything contained to that one area. It is simple to remove because there are just the two cords from the lighting and the one from the fans.
