Canopy weight?

I am building a canopy for a 180 that is going to be a unique design and much taller than a normal canopy. The frame is going to sit on the rim of the tank but it will be screwed into studs behind the tank. Is weight a concern here?

Tank is a standard 180 with 2 center braces, plastic trim.

Since the weight of the canopy will be held by studs also and not solely by the tank itself, I wouldn't worry. I'd just use light weight materials were I can in the construction of the canopy.

I used all hardwood and stained glass on mine. The frame sits on the trim like your saying tou will do, its 22 or so inches tall and it is not secured to the wall.
Its lighter than the acrylic one from oceanic.

Any idea how much it weighs? I am guessing I will be in the 150 pound range

I didnt weigh it but would guess around 100 to 110 lbs,

I wouldn't worry about it unless the weight is not spread across the rim fairly evenly. No pressure points= no problem. At least at these reasonable weights IMO

You could have it fully supported by the wall behind and have it hover 1/8" or so above the tank. The trim could hide the gap.
