can't find my original post? flow question

I am new to RC and had a post up about plumbing for a sump and need to ask a question, but, can't find my post.
My question is, now that I have my sump up and running good, there seems to be sand from my fuge going back into the returns. Do I have too much flow thru the sump? I did my sump like one on meleve's web sight, which has a refuge. If there is too much flow and thats what is causing the sand to blow, its not real bad but I can see it coming out of the return lines....how do I fix it? By slowing down the return pump or how? Thanks you all have been wonderful to help me!

Yes I do have a valve on the return pump to slow it down. I am using the eshopps overflow 1000-- dual bulkheads.
I will get my daughter to get some pictures as soon as she can. She has a busy day today with her two little ones. Thanks!

Yes that is my thread, how do I go about finding it? Any instructions to do that?
Do you all think I need a smaller return pump? I do have it turned down, but only slightly, I could turn it down more if need be. This is on a 110 gallon display and sump is 30 gallons. Thank you so much.

There are two ways, hit the "search" icon above any of your posts, and it will show you all of them.

Or from the home page, click on "my RC" on the left hand side.

For now I would turn it down some more. But, in the long run a smaller pump would be better, IMO.

Oh, I have new pictures in my gallory, my daughter did it for me and put them in a new thread, she didn't know, so...... maybe they will help. It looks like I may be buying a new pump, hate to have to but oh well. I want this to run smoothly and for things to be right. Thanks!

I have an external pump, so it won't be apple to apple.

But, I have a Velocity 2, rated for 600 GPH, though I do have it throttled back a bit. With elbows, head loss, and it being throttled back I am guessing it is around 450 now.

If I ever have to be replaced I will go with the Velocity 1, think that is around 500 GPH.

Think an Eheim 1260 or a Mag 7 would work for you if you want to stay with internal.
