Can't find my Rainsford's Goby...

I don't know whether to be sad or frustrated. I bought a Rainsford's Goby last week and put him in my 40B reef never to be seen again. I watched him settle to the bottom and look around a bit before I went on an errand... haven't seen him since.

Are these very secretive gobies? I never saw a body either and as far as I know he didn't go carpet surfing, though the cats would have probably made off with the evidence if that happened. I don't want to buy another one for fear that mine is still alive and hiding... what do you all suggest?

I've never really heard many success stories with these cool little fish. I'm hoping for the best.

I had one for about 8 months. I would go 3 and 4 days without seeing him sometimes. Very secretive little suckers. I think mine was the victim of predation as opposed to starvation, because it had become quite fat then just disappeared.
