Carberryi Anthias

I'm wanting to add a harem of 1 male and 2-3 female Carberryi or Threadfin Anthias (Nemanthias carberryi) to my tank. I've received snorvich/Steve's recommendation that it'll be a good addition. I have my old 20 gal to set up as a QT for my 125 gal DT. My question is, will fish like anthias who need swimming room do well for four weeks in a tiny 20 gal for QT? Or do I need to figure out how to get them in the bigger tank faster?

I shouldn't have posted this late last night. I accidentally left "...and QT" off of the thread title, and I meant to mention that I know I need to QT:

Q. Do I need to QT anthias?
A. Yes. Acclimation to captivity is the first reason. Newly imported anthias are often starved, and unaccustomed to eating prepared foods. They will often only accept the smallest, frozen meaty foods, and then, only in tiny portions, very frequently. They must be adapted to eating larger foods, eating more food per feeding, and competing for food with other fish. This is all much easier to do in a separate QT system, without the presence/intimidation from other established, more aggressive feeders. Of course, the second reason to QT is to observe the fish for disease. Bacterial infections, as well as worms/flukes are not uncommon.

I'm just wondering if I should do the full 4 weeks QT with anthias in the much more restrictive 20 gal or if it's better to shorten that to get them in the 6' tank.

I think it should be fine. They'll probably come in pretty small. Just put some clean pvc pipes in your 20 gallon so they have a place to hide. They'll do ok for your QT period. I'd try to maintain a decent amount of flow in the QT if possible.

Thank you for the assist. I can put one of my MJ400s in the 20g which hopefully won't be too much flow.

But, you do want to prazipro any fish especially anthias.

I think that PraziPro can hurt inverts, especially feather dusters (ornamental worms). I need to re-read your blogs about transferring from QT to DT and see what, if any, rinsing steps you recommended.

Thanks for the help.

yep treat with prazipro. and make sure you do 2 doses as instructions say. It won't hurt anything. I used it in my reef tank and saw no ill effects other than my frogspawn being angry for a little while. I kept my 3 in a 40 gallon breeder and they hid in pvc the whole time.

You can run carbon on your QT after treatment, but the minuscule amount of medication that might be transferred in the water clinging to your fish won't hurt anything in your display.
