I know this is a strange question but here it goes anyway. The only dumb question is the unasked one right?
In another thread or two there was mention that the bacterial slime etc... that builds up in the ATO container actually supplies some food for corals. Makes sense I guess since many of they do filter feed on things in that size range.
So in my muddled halfway caffeinated brain this morning I was thinking about yeast. They are pretty small buggers and quite high in nutrition(at least for us). If one was to add a yeast culture to an ATO would corals benefit from consuming the yeast?
Next question, In order to maintain a culture you have to feed them. Yeast food is sugar(I make wine and beer so I have a lot around). Sugar is a carbon source, also the alcohol that is a byproduct of yeast reproduction is a carbon source.
Obviously carbon dosing via ATO is quite a bit less controlled than is normal, but if you calculated your average ATO usage volume you could come close. Especially if you made sure it was an under dose to avoid problems and you could manually dose if you felt more was needed.
Downsides to this idea? Not worth the trouble?
