Carbon dosing in large reef

Randy. It doesnt make sense to me why people are adding .5ml of vodka per week regardless of the size of tank. Clearly in my case where i have 1300gallons of system water , this process wont get me to find my correct dose to keep nitrates dn until way too long. How can it make sense that the guy who has a 100 gallon tank and has less than one tenth of my volume add the same amount of increase as me ??? Can i go up faster. ???? Like a ml increase per week or more. ??????

I think one should always consider organic carbon doses in mL/gallon. obviously feeding and toehr factors also make a big difference. :)

I've always raised my doses way faster than the article by Genetics does.

Do you know if you have elevated nutrients or an algae problem?

If you do not know the nutrient levels and do not have an apparent algae problem, in a 1300 gallon tank, I'd start with 25 ml vinegar (not vodka) per day dosed during the daylight hours for 3 days, then 50 mL vinegar per day for a week, then 100 mL per day for a week, then take it from there depending on how the tank looks. Stop or reduce any time you see a problem.

im not sure this is possible , but after day 3 of 75 per vodke and 25per vinegar ( ie 4ml vodka amd 8ml of vinegar ) my no3 levels are already cut in half from 5ppm to 2.5 > is this possible so fast ?? maybe cause ive been using lots of koralzucht products which i think is vinegar anyway??? i dont know . my driver said to me he thought the sand looked whiter ans less brown algae and water looked clearer so i decided to test on lamotte kit

That might be possible, given the measurement limits of hobbyist test kits and the speed at which bacteria can grow. I would keep dosing and watching, and not worry much.
