Carbon Filter?????

Here is my plan...I have a 30 gallon tank that I will be setting up to run in order to transfer corals and fish from my old tank and have a smaller setup.

I am going to be running the CPR backpak filter and I was thinking of adding a mesh bag of carbon into the return chamber of the CPR (where usually the blue plastic stuff is).

First, does anyone add carbon or other media to the CPR chamber or any protien skimmer?

Second, would you recommend adding carbon if I already have live rock and live sand?

What are the benefits and drawbacks to adding carbon to a reef setup.

All help is much appreciated....

I used carbon in the media basket of the Prizm Pro skimmer before.

People say carbon can take out good things you want, trace elements.

I run carbon in a HOT magnum now. Just make sure you change it often. Otherwise your nitrates might go up.

Glad to hear that someone is using a HOT magnum for carbon on their saltwater...I currently run a HOT magnum on my 30 gallon freshwater, but as soon as I'm up and running with my new 75 reef, I plan on getting rid of the freshwater setup (well, only the fish and stuff), turning the tank into a sump/refugium for my 75 and using the HOT magnum to run carbon every now and then

Do you run it continuously or just every now and then for a few days here and there?
