Carbon/GFO Reactor Question

I'm looking into buying the BRS Carbon/GFO dual Reactor, very cool design. With one of these reactors should you pump return water into it and have it dump back into the return area? Or are you supposed to use drain water? I also, read somewhere that running too much carbon is bad for your system, is this true?

Yes you can use a branch from your return pump to feed the reactor. BRS has a calculator that will tell you the amount of GFO and carbon to for your system.
 
That's essentially what I do... run it off a pump and manifold in the return section and have it drain back into the return section. It is possible to use too much gfo or carbon. Using it too aggressively, can strip the water too much. I personally recommend starting out from 1/4 - 1/2 the recommended amount and increase as, or if, needed.
 
Recommend you use two separate reactors in parallel with ball valves in front of each one to control flow. Carbon and GFO flow rates are different.
 
I use the same reactor. Place the gfo first and you shouldn't have any problem with the carbon. Just make sure the sponges are placed to keep the carbon from tumbling.
 
If you purchase the BRS duel reactor it is not difficult to split them into two separate reactors for better controll.
 
I've had a lot of success with the dual reactor. I run carbon first to save the more expensive GFO. Change carbon once a month, GFO 4-5 months, or if I start to see GHA.
 
I ended up buying two separate units. More expensive but I don't have a space for the dual in my stand. I do however have space for two if placed separately. Thanks everyone for the replies.
