Carbon in a Phosban reactor

Here's a thread from the chemistry forum where some folks were running a combo of phosban and carbon in a reactor. Are you talking about running carbon alone? If so, maybe you could put it in a pouch in there or something so it doesn't move around so much?

I run 2 phosban reactors in series. 1st one phosban and second one carbon (black diamond). Carbon wants more flow usually but by having the carbon one after the phosban filled one I kick the flow up higher and there is extra filtration after the phosban if I'm beating the phosban too hard from flow levels. I pack the carbon one full so it doesn't really move around too much although the phosban one rolls pretty good. I fill the phosban one about 2/3 full which also helps with higher flow levels since there's not as much room for the granules to move too much although I can watch the granules move from the bottom to the top slowly vs. just barley wiggling like some do. I've found that the phosban doesn't harden up on me that way.

That's supposed to be the best so that you can really force some water volume through w/o worrying about pulverizing the rust particles. I should probably go back to that thread when I was looking for my friend a cannister filter and see if some of the other ones for sale are still available. That or make one, they're pretty basic.

Thing is, I hadn't thought about it at the time, but the things are designed to discharge into an actual display tank, so the return plumbing on it is real short. I have it hanging on the side of my sump, so the water level in there was a couple inches below the output of the canister filter. I had to rig some PVC to direct the flow down into the sump.
