Carbon reactor?

Here's a simple question. I have a little Eheim 2211 canister filter, see photo.
Now, if I put some activated carbon in it, would it do the same work as a carbon reactor?
If not, what is the difference?

Yes it will work for running carbon or gfo

that's actually a great idea I have a few canisters I can use until I get the cash for some actual reactors. thanks for the idea
