Carc ????

I was wondering the same thing myself... just joined this forum a couple of weeks ago and was wondering if CARC still exists at all...?

if its at all possible i would like to keep it alive. i haven't been very involved in the hobby lately and my tank is paying the price (few dead corals and fish) but ive been VERY busy with the new baby girl. but now that we've got things somewhat settled in with her i would like to get this going again and get back into it as much as i can

we had a meeting with NARC early this year. but has been a long while. might just start going to NARC meetings if CARC isn't gonna stay afloat. someone more prominent let me know if there still is a CARC please.
I would try to organize one myself but i am still a noobie and dont know the store owners here in B'ham. and still dont really know anything about SW haha. or at least i dont feel like i know enough. so i still read almost daily on it. oops starting to blab haha.

Thanks,
Chris

Everybody is welcome to join the NARC meetings. Tomoko is an excellence resource and she keeps us going.

I still think it would be awesome to get the CARC up and going again... seems like theres a good amount of "central" AL people on this forum, I don't see why we can't make it work. Doesn't have to be anything big or have big fancy sponsors or anything like that..... I've gotten to know the main guys at Aquarium Imports and designs pretty well over the last 2 years so I might be of some help there.... so um, if someone wants to officially get the ball rolling, count me in....

Hey Guys,

For whatever reason the CARC has seemed to sputter.... I have been volunteering with the McWane Center's Wolrd Of Water staff on a 250 gallon reef display. The CARC did have a meeting there last year and it was very successful!! The staff at the World of Water has been bringing on board some really cool displays among the whole exhibit and if you have not been there lately, you should drop by and check it out. I have not asked as of late, but I remember them offering their seminar/conference room within the exhibit area as a place for meetings. I am not sure if there is a fee for renting the room, or just for entrance into the center or what. On my next visit I can ask them and see if that offer still stands. I would like to see the CARC continue. The Sarris guys were fabulous hosts, and between the possibility of the McWane Center and other local area stores we ought to be able to get it going again. If any of the remaining officers are still on the board here, maybe they can temporarily resume positions and get the ball rolling.

I am afraid that you guys are making this too difficult for yourselves. It's really simple to start a small club and get it going.

All I do is to talk to a shop or two and find out when is most convenient for the shop to have us. Then I post a message here and tell everyone when to show up. People usually volunteer to bring some snack food (or nice free frags if you're lucky) to share at the meeting if the meeting time is close to lunch time. After all, all we NARC members do is to hang out together and chat. We have no structure, no officers, or no fees. We just like to get togher and talk to another fish head without worrying if we look like a geek.

If you have more than one person to get together, it's a meeting. Just show up and start talking to others. Sharing your idea, experience, concerns, or what have you with another person is all that is needed. All you need is a place to hang out together. Shops are usually very willing to accomodate you anytime :) They may even offer some snacks (or even small door prizes) to those who come :)

So who wants to pick up a phone and give a call to Aquarium Design or McWane Center?

I'm a reefer who has since gotten out of the hobby due to school, but the bug has reinfected me!!!!! I just can't win. :)

I'm interested as well in getting to know some local reefers around here.
