Aquarist/Quarantine Specialist/Diver/Lab Manager at Sea Life aquarium. I love my job everyday, swimming with sharks and playing with extremely large skimmers all in a days work.

recently graduated from asu and moved to hawaii. i have 2 internships this summer with creative companys. the best advise anyone can give you is do apply for internships. this will be my 4th and 5th. i wish i did more. internships are important in narrowing down what you want to do career wise. so lets say you are interested in sports. you can intern for the cardinals dbacks or suns. turns out you love sports but hate working for the team. on to the next one. half the time internships give insight on what you dont want to do.. which also helps narrow things down. join the sports business association if you go to asu. they take business trips and it is a great experience and great practice for later in your career. i went to oregon and la multiple times and i figured out i wanted to work for a creative company (advertising, commericals, branding, PR, etc) they have departments for everything. which lead me to hawaii. good luck. the best thing to do is be proactive about it. go out and do something.

BbyZbra,
Thank you for sharing, do you enjoy your job? Are the average salaries in your field of work nice? What sort of degree do you have, or experience prior? Do you feel like the market is one that has many jobs available to you?

No problem! I love my job actually. I am lucky and have a great agent to work for. There is only two producers in our office so there is plenty opportunities to go around. My agent is awesome and will buy me all the leads I ask for, as long as I can handle them. I have been in sales for ten years and that is all the experience I have. Average salary is actually decent although commission is where the bread and butter is. I took a class to prepare myself for the state exam and have used all of the resources that State Farm provides me to further my career. The goal is to bean agent and State Farm has awesome stepping stones to help you get there. State Farm was pretty hard to get on with but I am beyond glad I went through the crap to start with them. Once state licensed there is plenty of other positions that open up, and putting up big numbers to back me up helps a ton!

edit: having an extremely flexible schedule and essentially being my own boss doesn't hurt either :)
