Caribbean live rock

Hi, I was wondering if you guys happen to have any more pictures of the Caribbean live rock you could post. I just ordered some and have heard good things about the shape. Is there still a problem with the flies being in with the rock? Also I wonder why it seems not as many people order this because it is cheap and looks good from what I can tell? It may be because the Fiji is just more known. Is a 40 lb. box 40 lbs. of rock or is it sold like a box lot where the whole box with the rock weighs 40 lbs? Thank you very much.

Also, is this rock handled like all your other live rock. Where you guys unpack it at the facility and put it in water and then repack it for shipment? I am just wondering because I know it is not cured but I wonder how dried out it gets if not done the above mentioned way. Thank you again very much.

grandp10,

Thank you for your questions. We apologize that the only pictures we have available for the Caribbean Live Rock would be online. As far as your question regarding why one type of rock sells more than the other, is basically customer preference. One main difference would be the color of the coralline algae. The Caribbean Rock that is on the LiveAquaria web site is packaged with wet paper to maintain moisture. Then is shipped directly from Florida to your chosen destination. The 40 pounds accounts for the weight of the rock, not including the packaging. We normally do not have any complications with flies being on the rock. However, since flies may be attracted to the decomposing materials on the rock, it is possible that when a box is received there may be flies inside.

Thank you very much for the quick response. So do you guy's get this stuff in and fill orders right from the boxes when they come in, or do you unpack from shipment and put them in water at the facility until the orders are ready to be filled? Thanks again very much!

grandp10,
The Caribbean Live Rock is unpacked when it arrives into the states, and is maintained in a 2000 gallon holding tank. The orders of rock are pulled from this tank, and packed in an insulated cooler with wet newspaper.

Hi, just received my order of Caribbean live rock. It is pretty descent rock not really as good as I was expecting, but that is how it is when you can't look at it before buying, it seems more dense than described. There was no heat pack, does that matter when being delivered to Illinois where it is cold, the rock itself even felt cold. There was no wet paper on the rock to keep it more wet. Do any of these things really matter? Out of 40 lbs there was 5-10 lbs. rubble, looked like maybe a couple big pieces broke in shipping. There are 2 big pieces, like it describes when ordering, the rest are roughly softball size. This is another reason I wonder if some broke in shipping. All in all though it is definately better than some of the local stuff. Thank you very much for your help.

Thank you very much for the quick reply. I called liveaquaria and they took care of me really well. They even gave me more credit than I thought they needed to, but they insisted on the credit. I think you guy's are a top notch company with excellent customer service, and plan to do much business with you, as I have for several years already. Especially for fish and corals it is hard to beat your quality, I have ordered some things that look even better than the pictures books have to identify a certain species. Thank you very much!
