carnation - Pink

Hello all,

I just bought a this carnation pink about a week ago. The polyp start open the next day for everyday until now but only like couple hours a day. I just notice the trunk of this coral seem to rotten or dying. The coral starting to wiggle back and forth.

Is this a bad sign coming up?

Can I do anything to save?

I notice my nitrite is about 15 ppm. I do weekly water change but seem that I cant get it down to 0. But the others coral seem to do really well and getting bigger everyday..

How long has your tank been set up? It is odd that you are showing such high nitrite reading they should be 0 are you sure this is not nitrate? Also these corals are extremly hard to keep I have never kept one but I have heard. Once a soft coral starts to show signs of rottening it is usually to late pull it from the DT and place it in another tank so it does not pollute your DT. But if I where you I would look into the nitrite unless your tank is not cycled yet you should never see that up in that range.

My bad, I mean Nitrate (No3). My Nitrite is 0.

As of now the coral is already fall of the rock. What should I do?

I have a few of these and even though you often hear that they are extremely difficult I have found them to be not too bad. If it comes off the rock try blasting off any loose tissue and increase the flow around the damaged area. Place it on some rocks and it will likely attach again. I had one break apart right after I got it and the pieces reattached throughout the tank and have all grown quite a bit. They feed well on phyto and zooplankton of various sizes that I feed daily. They vary a lot on the amount of time they stay open and none of mine seem to really have any specific schedule. They can be open or closed any time of day or night.

There has to be someone who knows how to grow these specific corals. They are stunningly beautiful. Im searching threads but everyone is saying the same thing.

I would love one there so beautiful. They have then at the pet store that I always visit . But the guy at the store told me there not for beginners and that they're very hard to keep. And he has them attach to some white flouting stuff upside down.
