Carpet Anemone (Stichodactyla haddoni)

Been looking around and see that the Carpet Anems. need good lighting. I have a 60 gallon with Current USA ORBIT EXTREME with 2x130 watt lights. Good for a carpet Anemone? Or MH's be better. It looks like they would need a lot of TLC. Not as much as my current BTA. But man, I like to see mother nature in action!! My false percs. could give two you know what's about my BTA!! But I don't really like the other clowns that normally hook up with BTA's. I got a watchman goby. When I found out they have a symbiotic with pistol shrimp, I HAD to go out and get one. Sure enough, like two peas in a pod!!

Anyway my focus here is Carpet Anemone's.

My friend used to have a haddoni in a 90gl with 4x110 vho tubes. The anemone thrived until he gave it away about a year later.

S. haddoni is quite tolerant of various lighting regimes, though VHO, T5, or metal halides would be preferable. PC can be acceptable for this species, depending upon the depth of the tank--what are the dimensions of your tank, namely height?

saltycreefer it did not thrive it was only there a year how long do you think anemones live in the wild?
i would say t5ho or MH would give you much better succsess

Ive had mine in my 55g for about a year and a half now. He is under 2x150w hqis and 2x130w actinics. My buddy had on is his 30g under 200w PC it did fine. He did upgrade to hadiles though. I would really try and bump up your lighting. While it is possible to keep them with PCs I think you will get the best results with T5s or MHs. I would be careful with your clowns. Are they wild or tank-raised? I tried 2 pairs tank-raised Ocellaris clowns and the carpet ate them. I had to change my plans to wild saddleback clowns. Also I have lost about 10 fish to this anemone. They are very sticky and show no mercy. Just letting you know. HTH

upgrade lights again??!?!? :) hmmmm....ate your clowns, eh? maybe i better hold off. i just have no paitence. :mad2: my 2 false percs were hosting the heater in the back corner. so i moved the heater on them. :D now they are hosting the back corner. they used to host the powerhead, but one got sucked up. my bad. i was getting around putting a cover on that. guess i waited too long. i just wish they would come out front once in a while. but in the wild they they don't venture too far off from their host.

btw, my ocellaris are tank raised.

Dude, he had the anemone for a year AND THEN GAVE IT TO THE LFS. It grew too big and ate everything from fish to urchins. I know anemones have been dated back hundreds of years in the wild.

hey, i understood you creefer. i was gonna say something before, but i can't post on this site while at work for some reason.
