Yes i run carbon ive even put some suspended in the air above the sump.
I feed my fish by putting a fozen block of mysids or brine shrimp on the tank rim soaked in tank water. Im wondering whether that is the cause. So i scrubbed the rim with a blade and a scouring cloth we will see if that makes a difference.
Dose not realy explain why the sump area smells though?
You say you feed a block of frozen foods. Any chance these could drift into the sump with out being eaten? If so maybe bits are being caught in filters or splashed by bubbles or turbulence onto the side of the sump above the waterline and decomposing there. A wild guess but it's worth a close look around the sump with a flashlight (torch since you're from england )to see is there is something going on down there.
Hi
Aftet scrubbing the top edge of the tank over and over i think things are improving.
It must of been food waist and algae build up.
It hasn't completely gone but massive improvement so must be connected? I think ypu are right about food waste, just havent experienced anything like it before.
Many thanks everyone.
