Catalina protein skimmer?

I have a 29 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump and a catalina 150 protein skimmer. This protein skimmer hasn't given me any skimmate yet, but considering that I just added the sump and changed from an airstone skimmer, I'm thinking that there may just not be any disolved organic waste because of all the additional clean water. Is this skimmer junk, or is there just not enough waste yet?

I am sure their is waste even with the extra clean water. try adjusting the water level in the skimmer. I am not real falmiluar with those skimmers but will try to help.

I know how to adjust it, but I don't know where the water level should be.

try to raise it about half way up the collection cup. and adjust from there. if your getting to wet of skimate lower the level a little if barely getting any raise it a little. it will take a little while before you find the sweet spot.
