Catamina Goby

Has anyone had Catalina Gobies? I know they are used to colder water. I used to dive on Catalina Island and saw many of them and the incredible orange Garibaldi's. If water gets over 80 degrees are they goners? Does their metabolism really not work in a reef setup?

How about Garibaldi's?

I know that Garebaldi's dont' do well in that warm of water but I never heard of a Catlina Goby so no help there.

I've tried the Catalinas in a tank and here at the store, no-go on both counts. Too bad, they're cool looking fish.

I used to see them at LFS years ago. They were always sold with the warning: "Does better in cooler water." I guess that's why you never see them now. Related topic....the OKC Zoo used to have a cold water tank that had an octopus and kelp and.... catalina gobies. It was cool.

Catalina Gobies require a temp of 74* or colder.

I just read up on these guys a smidge, the book I read said they can get along just fine in a reef but due to the fact that their not a true reef fish, and need colder climates, the warmer waters would increase metabolism and decrease lifespan. Of course this comes fromt he same book that said "sure , put that dominoe damsel in the tank, perfectly reef safe, great community fish!"
