I actually tried that on my fish as I had some leftover from a small sushi plate. Everyone ignored it but my giant radiant wrasse. He took the whole thing in his mouth then Puff the little nucleus came right out of the gill and liquids.
Do your fish actually eat this? My fish will eat the much smaller ones (Masago) they sell at Japanese markets and they sell the undyed and unseasoned version here.

I do not see any fish other than larger carnivores actually eating this. The smaller (Masago) as Diana mentioned works great, but these larger eggs are too large for most smaller reef fish. Another plus to the small eggs is the fact that the fish can consume the entire egg in one piece, allowing them to receive the bulk nutrition. If the fish bust the salmon roe, most of the oils and other "goodies" will be lost in the water column and the outer "shell" will be consumed.

My wrasses also LOVE the salmon roe the most. The only fish that just absolutely LOVE the salmon roe is the cardinal fish(they just swallow the eggs whole lol) and the wrasses.
Yup, my fish eat them.
I'll have to look into the Masago eggs. How much does the Masago eggs cost if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah, the large fish eat the eggs. My starfish LOVE the eggs tho and so do the corals. lol

Masago costs about $2.00 for a 4x4 eggcrate container. It does knock the skimmer foam down (depending on what kind and how fatty it is) and make really black skimmate.
Size of Masago is about 1mm around the same size as smallest Spectrum pellets. Size of Salmon Roe is around 1.5 to 2 of Medium size Formula One pellets. I used the Masago when I introduce fish that are difficult to get to eat. All fish seem to immediately recognize it as food source. This is before we discovered Nutramar prawn eggs. It works wonders. Perhaps because it is more pungent.

I am not sure how much masago is per lb or oz. I will look next time I am at the Japanese market.
Nutramar prawn eggs are sold at LFS. Made by Quality Marine and I paid $10 for 100g bag.

I wouldn't say the prawn eggs are a necessity. They are definitely handy for finicky eaters.
