Nah, actually, that night we shared our night dive with 3 of them circling within a few feet of us. One was huge!

I'm still trying to find the pic that won the cruise photo contest.

Thanks for sharing. We leave for our dive trip in less than a month. We're going to the D.R. this year...Punta Cana and La Romana. Your pics only get me more excited.

Where in Cayman did you go? Brac?
Did you stay at a resort or a live aboard?

We took the Nekton livaboard to all 3 islands.

I was not impressed at all w/the diving at DR. We went with a non-dive resort though (parent's paid for family trip) & maybe they didn't take us to any of the better sites. They also were Natzis about depth & following them around like baby chicks. If we went even 1 foot below them they came over to scold us.

I hope our experience is different. We have a few friends that have dove thru-out the island and I've learned that diving is vastly different in Nov than say April or May (trade winds, visibility, etc). Of course the dive shop/outfitter can be the wild card.

Did you use a strobe on your pics? Any preference: Brac, Grand, Little?

Just finished my PADI OW certification dives this past weekend (now that was cold!) and I can't wait for my first reef dive.

As Dave said, those pictures (except the shark) just make me more excited about the new under water world available to me.

Thanks for sharing.

Where did you do your underwater cert Chris @ Haigh Quarry? Wow, you sure picked a cold weekend. But you'll be happy that you did it here instead of on vacation.

You'll soon find that warm water diving is much more fun :) Reef diving has made me look at my tank from a completely new perspective.

Yes, it was at Haigh Quarry. Saturday had air temps reached 60 with water temp @ 20 feet of 57. Sunday air temp was 39 - it was warmer in the water than out!

Biggest issue I had was with the 7mm farmer John wetsuit. I really felt restricted in that thing and having to carry an extra 36 pounds of weight to compensate was rough.

Yeah, I hate cold water diving. Hubby will dive anywhere... I keep trying to find someone else to dive in the lake w/him!

Yes, most of my pics I use a strobe, unless it's far away, then I set the camera to use available light (like the last pic). Every time I go on a trip, I either take a photo course, or ask other photographers a lot of questions (on the last trip, it was the Captain). I took the Marty Snyderman online photo course & a Digital Shootout with Jack & Sue Drayfal (won it at Our World Underwater!). We all should go to thart convention together this year.

We talked about going to Our World Underwater last year. That would be a fun trip.

We bought an underwater camera before our dive trip to Salt Cay - Turks & Caicos and some pics came out good, but it's trial & error. I'm getting better...

I also bought a few lenses and learned you really need to use the macro lens if you are within a few feet
