CDA aquarium expierence?

I have 2 CDA aquariums, both 150g (60 x 24 x 24). I like the tanks very much. The stands are well-made and sturdy, although, I have some small issues with the sanding and finish here and there. No experience with Red Sea.

Nice. How much was it? Is it really same price as website? Or much cheaper? How long has it been on run?

Iv been in the talks lately with CD primarily with Zoya, she was the rep at RAP Anaheim. There customer service response has been great and quick. I can’t personally speak on how fast or slow a custom tank can be built. But from the info I have received was the standard 6-8 week mark, which also depends on the customization you request or how big. I think right know there also advertising a quick turnaround on typical size eurobrace tanks with a 10% off. For me, choosing a manufacturer for a custom built (60x30x26) wasn’t too difficult, especially after seeing there build quality and reinforcement options, let alone they’re local to us so it satisfying to me that I can support local businesses. I’m really considering taking the drive out to them too since they have a very similar tank at there office.

With Red Sea tanks, you're stuck with their propriety bulkheads and there's not that much customization for overflow boxes. If you're looking for a true plug and play system then Red Sea is a great option. If you're looking for something a little more custom (Eurobrace, extra reinforcement, etc.), go with CDA.

We have 2 custom CDA tanks with custom CDA stands. We are very pleased with the results and have been for years. If we ever get another tank, it will be CDA. Can't comment on pricing because both of ours were custom and they did everything to the exact specs I provided.

If you go with redsea, please do some research on the other site (can't mention here) .. There is a huge thread now of issues with QC, in particular to the stands not being able to hold up the test of time causing leaks.

Before you make the move, look at some redsea displays and look inside the stands. You will quickly know why there have been so many issues.

I was leaning custom anyway because of the reason you list. Yea red sea is great plug and play but long term, custom is way to go I think...

For a tank that size, definitely go glass. I love the clarity of acrylic but you look at it funny and it scratches. Yes, I know it can be buffed out but that's a PITA to do.

Ditto. I've had both and I will not go back to acrylic. Once Coraline takes over, it'll be hard to hold back scratches.

+1 on great experience with their tank, As long as I've been in the hobby majority of my tanks have been Lee-mar and CDA tanks. Well built, never had any issues with them, and super sturdy stands. Like anything else in this hobby, patience is a must so if u want something custom order you'll have to wait which it doesn't bother me anymore. My last order with them was a 80gal setup tank and stand all custom.. i think it took about 5 weeks i think...

In the case of both my tanks, the delivery time took much longer than quoted. Both took 17 weeks from payment of the deposit until delivery. The first one was about $2.6K, the 2nd one was ~3K (it had a taller canopy) I received the first one in August, 2016 and the second one in March, 2017. Both have been running with no problems whatsoever and are very attractive tanks. My next one will be from CDA as well but I will get the stand and canopy unfinished and do that myself.
