CDMAS Newsletter

Change of subject...

We need a name for our new newsletter.

Just off the cuff I came up with "The Home Mariner" or "The Reef Reader" or "CDMASthead", but I can't say I'm particularly happy with any of those.

Help?!

into threats which then take off to, well, who knows where.

Hope none directed at me Rainer

CDMAS Anchor sounds good Joe

A friend suggested "Saltwater Taffy" and the more I think about it, the more I like it.

Anyone else? Where are all the brainstormers.

Once we have a few good choices, I'll set up a vote.

How about ....

drum roll ....

"CDMAS Newsletter"? :D

"CDMAS Anchor" is pretty good, but I think naming the newsletter is maybe a little bit corny. That's just my opinion though, I'm not really that concerned about what it's called.

so simple, yet PERFECT !

Gots my vote :D

I would be happy to write an article for each one. Could be on anything that is seen to offer value. From beginner to more advanced topics or species related- depending on what people feel would be the most beneficiial. Personally a newbie column might be the most useful....

That would be great Michael. I'm sure we'll have room. Let me know what title/subject you decide on for our first issue. Please try to keep it below 200 words.

Assuming this is going to be in electronic format, what's the harm in exceeding a page or two?

As one of the most knowledgable members of the group, there is a lot to learn from Michael and I think we would be defeating our purpose by placing a limit on what he has to say. I think that should go for anyone willing to contribute their time to write an article, even if they don't know too much. :D

Either we're creating a newsletter (which can be viewed both in PDF or on paper) or we're creating an online-only magazine of sorts. If the latter is the case, then we may just as well post articles to our existing Reef Central forum or to our own website. In which case, you don't need my help for that.

When I suggested the idea, I envisioned a true newsletter, with a layout and format. No offense to anyone willing to write an article, but there has to be a limit with this format. Anybody who writes for a print publication has a limit.

If that is not what the group wants, please say so now.

Maybe we should have one feature article with no hold back on wording, and some smaller articles about what is going on in the group, like monthly meetings, events, ect. Where we limit ourselves. We could trade off authors, topics and areas of interest for the main article. How many pages will this news letter be?

It'll be a four page (8.5" x 11") newsletter by folding an 11x17 sheet in half. The back page will be totally dedicated to advertising.

How can we have a potentially for-print newsletter with no limit on wording? That's unpossible. :)

Too many cooks is about to spoil this stew.

Michael, an article authored by you would be hugely appreciated, but please keep try to keep it to 200 words. There might be room for more, but I won't know for sure until after I get all the articles.

All, please remember this is the first one and we need to keep a limit to prevent this from getting out-of-hand. Also, this is all subject to refinement for editions two, three, four, and so on. Let's keep it simple for our first one.

as far as I can tell, it appears that members are supporting an online only version of a newsletter. I don't think we need to spend club cash to produce the newsletter. I trhink its a nice idea to have it for members to read....and also boost website traffic.
