Center brace on bowfront tank

Just wondering if its safe to remove the plactic brace thats on a 29 bowfront I have in the basement. When it's filled it dosent seem to get any tension on it and I want to remove it and make a nano out of the tank. Thoughts?

Making it a nano has nothing to do with the brace......I wouldn't do it....it was put there for a reason....especially on a bow front.

The brace is not there for show. As "small" as a 29 is, it's still 250lbs of water in there... Sure it wold work for a while, but some day you'd come home to a floor covered in sea water.

The brace on a bow front is important. However, I have seen people remove it and replace it with clear acrylic brace. They cut it out and left a few inches on either side. Then with acrylic glue and nylon bolts installed the new clear brace.

I did what infamous suggests on my 45G bow front. But it wasn't voluntary, I snapped it by accident and I thought the tank would explode. The front pushed out by about 0.5in when it happened. Luckily, my wife was home and I was able to clamp the tank until I could fabricate the acrylic brace. I did that about 3yrs ago and the tank is still filled.

I've got my old 45 in the basement that i use for water mixing with this done to it for the better part of the last 8 years...
