A blackcap basslet would fight with my royal gramma.

How colourful are the rhomboids in person? I've only ever seen them in pics, but they don't appear to have much colour to them.

Rhomboids are beautiful in person and have this golden glow that you can't see on a screen. I would also highly recommend a C. Rubrimarginatus for a cheaper option, although it may be a little big when fully grown.

I'll have to track a rhomboid wrasse down then to see what it looks like in person.

What's the best approach? Find a male? Find a female and wait for it to change into a male?

Would a pair be feasible in a tank my size if I can track one down or should I stick to an individual?

I've had a rhomboid (male & female together) as a rescue. The male didn't survive a month, but the female did and is doing well (she's now in a friend's tank).

I also currently have a Pintail Fairy Wrasse (C. isosceles), and IMO, it is a more striking fish than the rhomboid (although I intend to add another at some point...assuming I don't get a Claire )

Just another suggestion.

The next time I take a trip to my lfs, I'll ask him for prices and availability on that, the rhomboid, and roseafascia. I just remembered how much I love the look of that fairy wrasse lol I'll just get one (or a pair) of one of the species.

Does anyone have experience with roseafascia? What can you tell me about isosceles in terms of care and size?

My C. isosceles has maxxed out at about 4" long. He's not aggressive towards any other tankmates. He eats as well as anything; I never had trouble feeding him LRS, mysis cubes, Ova, PE pellets, NLS pellets...

If anything he will defer to others (anthias, the bigger wrasses), but he does not go without food.

He's very active in the water column and fun to watch swim.

I do not have experience with Rose-Banded...as I suspect you know, it is in the same group as the isosceles but is rarely available (from my limited experience).

Hopefully Hunter chimes in on this thread...

I've been looking at prices for these wrasses and I think I'm eliminating the pintail from the list. The rose-banded seems to be the most likely bet.

See if they will ship to a ups or FedEx store location in upstate New York. Obviously work it out with the location first. Then just drive there to pick up. Elect for Saturday shipping or whatever day you're free.

I would still need to have a lot of paperwork ready to legally bring the animal into the country. Not worth the stress.
