Centropyge joculator

What a Christmas:) My LFS was able to secure a pair of joculator's for me:)

One of the fish is being described as tiny (less than a inch). From one of the images supplied it appears the fish still has it's rear spot. Another one is described as small an inch to two inches.

My question is this. They are currently not paired. Or from my understanding the wholesaler is keeping them separated (policy). I have a ten gallon QT. Do you think they will do alright together in my 10 gallon QT or should I purchase a separate QT. I hate to separate them as I really want them to pair up.

Also from everything I've read they are a very hardy fish. I'm buying the fish unseen except for photos. I know this is a risk but in my opinion one that has to be taken; cost of the fish, etc.

Does anyone have any advice on feeding? From my understanding they have been in captivity or here in the US for ~a month and are eating fine. I don't believe they are like some angels where getting them to eat in captivity is normally a problem.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try to post pictures when I get them.

PS. They will be going in a 75 gallon display with a resident multibar.

You could try them unseparated in the 10g with plenty of PVC for them to hide in. If it were me I would get some egg rate and cut the tank in half and separate them at least for the first day or two. If the one is under 1" make sure you have some ova or baby brine shrimp or shave off pieces of mysis to make sure the angel eats. Also feed more than 2xs a day until the fish is fat and healthy

My experience with Jocs is they can be tough little fish with some attitude. A 10g tank may be too small for the tiny one to hide and be comfortable from the larger one.

It appears that it is going alright. No total aggression. Minor chaseing by the larger one, which I expected.

The eggcrate might have worked if the 'tiny' one wasn't so tiny. I swear it's maybe a half an inch. Full spot and the blue around the eyes wraps over the head.

So far so good though. Both are eating mysis and ova. They both came in fat and happy.

My plan is to observe and not treat unless I have to. Right now it appears they are healthy.

We need pictures of the tiny one. Fit-through-eggcrate tiny must be adorable!
Perhaps construct a small box of eggcrate and put it in there for the teeny one to hide in, as a place the other can't invade?

I'm not worried about aggression it's a none issue. The larger one is the boss but is not harrasing the little one at all.
Here is a pic and I'll try to get a better one.

I'm curious if the blue across the head will disappear as it gets older or if it will stay.

put them together and watch...they can get rough but work out a hierarchy fairly quick...75 is a bit small for 2 jocs and their aggression may end up affecting the multibar...the blue headband will sadly disappear....
here are some of my baby pics...lol, I forget but think there are 3 in my dt, but had 5 together for almost a year...
good luck, they are wonderful fish...

Ted.

Thanks for sharing. Already love their attitude. Everything I read say they were hardy but not a lot about their personality. So I'm happy that it appears to be the small man syndrome just in angel fish; spunky.

My little one is about the size of your little one in the bag.

Just wanted to share an update on my two little jocs......both are doing great and have worked out their issues, which haven't been much at all. There is a clear size different.

Also since adding them to my DT, they haven't picked or bullied any of my other angels.

Great little fish.

It's been almost a week and they haven't touched much of anything.

My experience has been with dwarf angels but most of them have left my softies alone. Granted my tank basically has leathers, gsp, xenia and anemones in it.

I currently have a
Multibar Angelfish (Paracentropyge multifasciata)
Golden Angelfish (Centropyge aurantia)
Lemonpeel Angelfish (Centropyge flavissima) _Juv.
and the pair of Centropyge joculators

Left on my short list is a Centropyge venustus

In my opinion the juvenille's are more likely to pick at things. but then I have a ton of LR and caves so there is plenty of things to pick at besides the corals I have.

I have found they pick at certain rock anemones, which I find interesting. Some they leave alone others it's like a tasty treat.

hey bud,

glad things are working out so well...tanks looks killer!
the jocs are beautiful and that little one is awesome!
continued success...

They look good in the tank congrats. I have the trio of Venustus and am looking for the right Jocs to come along. I wonder with of us will find what they are looking for first (smiling).

Thanks Ted and Dave. Good luck on the hunt for jocs. I'm sure you guys have had experiences with jocs and venustus together? That's the one combo I'm worried about. My other angels are all different colors.
