I haven't seen much mention of the reef creamics from captiveoceans. I've seen a thread on RC and a couple threads on the zeovit forum of guys who have used them. I think they do mention that they can leach phosphates and silicates. I think they look nice. I'm trying some in a 50 gallon I've set up. With the 50 gallon not being a very deep tank I used some backplates so I can affix SPS to the back and have it more open in the front for lower light corals. I'll try to get a pic up tomorrow. I am getting quite a bit of algae blooming. I haven't checked for phosphate or silicate. Have thrown some Phosban in there just in case and will get some critters to try to clean it up.
Good timing on this posting! I picked up a piece of this at IMAC this weekend and was wondering what it may impact. I was told to rinse it well to make sure I get off the ceramic dust before placing it in my tank.
Tunze Streams can be mounted in a ceramic rock sold by Tunze. I have 2 (they are fairly large-about 8" x 12" x 7") and have never noticed any problems?
Yea I was wondering what they were made of. Did you notice any brown algae growth on the stream rocks some guys on the zeo threads stated that the grew brown hair algae and phosphate and silicate levels were up???
I recommend rinsing them off very well. Then curing with a small piece of live rock and your old water (from water changes). It's what I did and seemed to work well.
