So, I brought home some coral crush substrate and live rock ruble put everything in the QT and noticed two dozen of these little snail that look to be Dwarf Cerith snails. Before I go apocalyptical on them I would like to id them so as to spare them or unleash the kraken on them.

It looks an awful lot like a freshwater MTS, a Malasian trumpet snail. Where did you get the rubble?
If you're certain they're saltwater, I'd say they're some variety of cerith-thing. Not quite sure, though.

from a LFS but they know as much as what it's said in the box,so no help there. yeap they are saltwater cause they been in the QT for some good 3 months. I've been trying to id them before i put the ruble in the sump

Looks like a Malaysian trumpet Snail. Are you sure there are snails inside? Hermits like the shells. Otherwise, it is possible for trumpet snails to survive in saltwater. Although the short-term (a month or so) survival rates are rather low. And the long-term (a few months) survival rates drop down into the single digits.

If you can get a picture of them where they are out and about, that could narrow it down.

You could have started with five billion and just have the few survivors, I guess... they're harmless, they burrow and eat gunk.

They're not true marine snails, although you can find them among the rubble right about the high tide line. I don't think they are the same as the Melanoides species you find in freshwater pools. They stir most after rain, so they must at least be attracted to fresh water, even if they're often splashed with saltwater. It'll be interesting to see if they can survive long-term in a marine environment. I suspect that, if they do, they will spend a good bit of time above the water line in your tank.

Cheers,

Don

They have been on those tanks for 2 years reproducing and shuc ,my friend tells me he got them from a bunch of cora ruble he purchase from long time ago for the main system they reproduce like crazy . I can attest to this as ill already see small tiny little one .

Yep, that would be Malaysian Trumpet Snails. Same shell pattern as the ones that run wild in South Florida. Neat.

They are asexual livebearers, so they do tend to reproduce like crazy. You only need two survivors to make a population and population growth is essentially exponential. My last attempt started with 60-70 a few months ago, and now there is one survivor left.

They're harmless. Beneficial really. About the only negative I could think of is if one didn't like them, their shells can stand up to most predators, so removing the population completely can be rather difficult.

Great ill take my chance and let them be ...just waiting 15 more days to let them out in to the DT ..
