Which agency do you want to go through? PADI,SSI,NAUI- There is a PADI shop called Scuba Emporium in Orland. I believe they are PADI, they are nice people and have a indoor pool. I went through a lifetime fitness class. It is actually a NAUI class that is held at lifetime by Divemax Scuba. I spent alot of money but I felt it was worth it.

Jeremy,

Check with your college. I know at the University I work at - they offer scuba courses for students. The good thing about university dive courses is that they are usually much more extensive.

yea i would do that but i go to the ill inst of art chicago. dont think we have a pool hahaha but thanks a lot man. i was told that i could do it for 500 at the place in orland but i thought that that was a lot well for me it would be. thanks again
Jeremy

Another option is to check with you local junior college. I have heard of some junior college that offers scuba classes.

humm i did go to JJC for my gen eds i wonder if they might have one. if not my sister works with a guy that also works at the place in orland park. going to see what he has to say about all of it. thanks again
Jeremy

i think that most colleges count it as a physical education course and will accept it for credit. i'd keep checking around for one of those. i've heard of community colleges offering them also.

try and go naui, naui stresses safety first

I think that may depend on the instructor. I was PADI certified, and my instructor really stressed the safety skills and aspects of diving a bunch.

I was certified through a jr. college in my area for $140. That included air, equipment use, etc. The only extra cost was paying for entry to the park for my exit dives, the personal gear that I bought, and the books.

trust me nomatter how much they stress safety the curriculum is much safer with naui i have had both and naui is extremely thorough
padi can teach you to dive well especially with the right instructor but naui is a smaller company that takes safety very seriously

NAUI is not that much smaller than PADI.
NAUI does teach you rescue skills that PADI does not.

Given a good instructor both PADI and NAUI are fine.

The instructor makes or breaks the class, just like any teacher. They all bring to it something different; some more, some less.

thanks guys for all the help was thinking of doing the ymca right by me but waiting to see if there will be a class some time soon.
