C'est Cyano?

Is this cyanobacteria? Brown on the sand with some small oxygen bubbles. Had skimmer issues for about a week and changed lights which could have caused the outbreak. Looking to confirm and get advice on combating - try sacking it up, water changes, get skimmer back to capacity (it's working now but not yet pulling good skim,), etc

it looks red to me so I would say yes

The beginnings of it yes along with a few looks like bubble algae.

That's not bubble algae, it's actually little air bubbles from the brown stuff. Wondered if it was dinoflaggelattes though Cyano would be more common I'd guess.

I got the exact same thing last month, 3 days of darkness and let skimmer fill up with red water... :lolspin:

I'm positive its cyano. Just ensure you:

- have more flow around these areas
- lower light intensities (specially reds if you can control the spectrum)
- try and slowly reduce your nitrates & phosphates
- if your fish n coral are healthy, you can try a 3 day blackout

most important thing in the hobby is to take it slow, don't expect it to clear out in a day... good luck
