Chaeto color

I have had some Chaeto in my refugium for a couple of months and recently got some new Chaeto. The new Chaeto is much darker green than what has been in my refugium. I'm lighting the refugium with this:

The tank is still pretty new. Just two baby clowns. My nitrates are around 25 and my phosphates are 0.

Any idea why my old Chaeto is so pale? It has grown albeit more slowly than I would have expected.

mine always looks like the one on the right.

that yellow color is really odd, it might be dead. but usually when it dies off it shrinks and sorta dissingrates. if its alive, that color is kinda cool though :D

Thats odd. Mine is dark green like the stuff on the right in your photo. My chaeto loves my led home depot bulb.

Could be the light.. Chaeto usually grows best in 5000K spectrum. I am not sure the spectrum of the light you are using.

Iron deficiency would turn macro yellow

Weird.
If your nitrates were zero then I'd say that your chaeto is malnourished. -Feed more.
If the yellow was spotty then you are bleaching with too much light. -Get less intense light source or back it off a bit.
In your case it seems like it is lacking some mineral. . .. I don't know which one.
Maybe one is a different strain. Place in the green one, report on its color in a week.
Good luck!

I dosed some iron, then went on a two week vacation. When I returned the yellow Chaeto hadn't really changed but the green Chaeto had grown about ten-fold. So I think the yellow probably is dead.

Light green yellowish can be fast growth, but I would chuck yours, since you have the new green stuff.

Here is what happens to me. I add chaeto about a baseball size maybe a little smaller. And it fills a 3 g bucket in 2 weeks and turns bright green from dark green.

Then it slowly turns lighter green to yellow and growth stops after about 8 weeks.

Dosing iron does not help, changing lights does not help.

Its my belief, the chaeto cleans up my water in 2 months and dies from lack of proper food, as I feed very very light.

Your miles may very but once chaeto goes yellow or real light green, I have never got it to some back to dark green.

Mine did this and I found out it wasn't getting enough flow and the light was just sitting on the same spots and killing it. I gave it better flow and waited. I Had to half it but it came back.
