hey all,

i just bought a ball of chaeto that i will putting in my fuge when its done being built, its sitting in my sump right now. after i couple of days i notice what looked like aiptasia(sp?) growing in the ball(kinda sticking out). ive never dealt with macroalgae before... is it ok?should i try to get rid of it?

also what kinda of lighting schedule is common for chaeto in a refugium. ive read people turn the lights on when there display tank lights go off. is this fine? does it matter when it goes on and off?

thanks,
greg

If there is aiptasia growing in your chaeto, I would pick it out before it spreads ;) For lighting, I find I get the best growth with at least 6 hours of dark. It will grow with 24/7, but it seems to be faster growth with the dark period.

my light stays on 24/7
I use a 23w florecsent natural light bulb 6500k. I bought that at home depot. cost 8.00
