Chaeto in your tank !

Guys do you put chaeto in your tank?

Right now I have some Bryopsis bloom in my tank, it is growing all over. So I though would be great if I put alot of chaeto in the tank. Is this a good idea?

Also my sump is full of chaeto that's growing really fast. :-)
My only prob is the Bryopsis.

if your sump is full of it, unless you actually like the look, then go all out, but there shoudlnt be a reason to put it in your tank if your sump is full of it

I thought the more chaeto I have in my set-up would be better to help starving/killing the BRYOPSIS ?

Am I right or not ?

i would think it would help eat up extra nutrients..i have a ball of chaeto in my tank..i don't have a good place in my sump, so i keep it wedged between 2 rocks with good flow through it

I would think the more macroalgae surface area you have, the faster the nutrients would be used by these algaes. It certainly wont hurt anything to add more chaeto. You want to have a greater growth rate of desireable macros that would theoretically eliminate unwanted algaes.

I keep chaeto in my sump and have 3 clumps in the display, at substrate level. The clowns and cardinals pick at the pods that dart in and out of these invert condos

Yes True Phyto.

Everyone says that Bryopsis is the worst algae to have in a reef tank and beleive it is true. Nothing seems to help to starve or kill this algae and I did everything I think with no success. I pulled out all my rocks, scrub it and after 3 weeks it appeared again. The parametres are good but it keeps coming.

This is my last chance I think. Chaeto vs Bryopsis.
I will put alot of chaeto in my tank and of course sump so we see who wins.

What do you think guys. do you think it's a good idea to make this and do you think the chaeto absorbing the nutrients will starve to death the Bryopsis or no ?

my only discouragement would be the fact that the chaeto likes to let go of tiny pieces and that, in my opinion, looks bad. I want so badly to shake my chaeto in the display so I can get the pods out for my manderine but I'm afraid of the mess it will make :(

Mine sits in the same chamber of my sump that the pump intank uses and so far no issues. I did put a piece of screen over the intake though.

Every now and then a tiny piece makes it through but nothing big.

Export nutrience. That is the sole purpose of macro algae correct? So pruning it from time to time would do this. Yes, the more you have the better BUT if it has no room to grow then it will slow its growth rate. I like how it looks, but to be in my display is just... well ugly IMO.

Best thing to do with the LR with Bryopsis is to remove it completely and get new rock. From what I have read and been told it is almost impossible to get rid of.

2639,take a cup or small container of tank water and shake the chaeto out in that. Then you could pick out pieces if they fall off, then dump the water and pods in your display :)

CoMMaNdeR,if the bryopsis is in a couple of places try a kalk paste
to kill it.Sometimes it works if you cover it pretty good with the paste.

Well I got rif of a terrible valonia (bubble algae) problem many yrs ago by putting caulerpa all over my tank so it might help.

Back then we didnt have chaeto or fuges lol.

I think what helped besides the nutrient uptake was that it deprived it of light.
So IMO worth a shot. Try putting the chaeto on top of the bryopsis.
