chaeto - sinks?

I thought chaeto was supposed to float, mine sinks

is something wrong?

I WISH MINE SUNK. MINE FLOATS TO THE TOP AND OUT OF THE WATER AND THE LIGHT DRYS IT OUT AND I HAVE TO TEAR THAT PART OFF.

Mine is sinking also, its not very large maybe baseball size right now.

Go in and pull it apart, shake it and spread it around a couple/few times a week. It's getting too much detrius and debris built up in it. How is the flow on it? If you can get it to roll it would be perfect although I can't. Sometimes people get the turnover too slow in there too. For the volume that the cheato is in, shoot for about 20+X turnover (not the tank or whole fuge, just the compartment the cheato is in).

I took some fishing line and a piece of pvc. Tie them to the cheato and let the cheato sit in mid water with the pvc piece acting as you anker...

the flow is very low

my "fuge" is just a 20L with no dividers and a big old hunk of chaeto in it

Send about 300-400 gph through it and a maxijet inside of it.
