Chaeto turning yellow?

We put a skimmer in the sump a couple weeks ago, and yesterday I noticed that the chaeto, which is in the same chamber, is turning yellow. No longer does it have that nice green color, or there is very little left.

Is it dying? Is the skimmer taking out the nutrients before the chaeto can uptake it? Is the light to intense? The Kessil H380 is on about 22 hours a day.

The only other real difference is the amount of room that the chaeto has to spread out since the skimmer is taking up some of the chamber now.

Any help or advice?

well, do yourself a favor. move the skimmer somewhere else that dont see any light, otherwise it will grow algae within the chamber, PITA to clean.
some people grow cheato in a ball, but i like my to spread out like a piece of carpet to cover as much surface area as possible and keep it thin, no more than 3-4" thick. once it hits that, i will trim out half of the cheato and spread the rest into the same area but half of the thickness.

Yep.. We covered that in a previous post of theirs about the skimmer placement already...

If nutrients are low then the algae may just not be getting the energy it needs and can/will die out...
What are your nitrate/phosphate levels?

Yeah, unfortunately there isn't any other room in this sump for moving the skimmer. [emoji53]

then i would look into making a DIY cheato reactor.

What are your nitrate/phosphate levels?

Yes. I would guess that it's a lack of fertilizer...either N or P or even Iron.

Keep in mind that this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Your chaeto is used to suck up N and P.
