Saw some nice mounted frags down at Tropical reef on Taraval today. Some nice one include a Watermelon Chalice(looks like it was stung by another coral should get a good deal on that one if you buy something else) Pink Panther (I would like to get this one) and others LE. Worth the trip if your into Chalices.

There must be a ton of mariculture pieces coming in either transshipped or not, because I have a real hard time believing that all these shops in SF are getting "watermelons" from those sources out there.. as a result I would be weary of paying top dollar for them simply because you don't know what it'll do since it's not going to stay in the store very long.

The pieces are aquacultured from a reputable dealer. Its funny how people judge a store especially in SF to have anything half decent.

Just putting the word out of what I found. Seem like "watermelons" are still a Hot items. Maybe someone else is looking for one. :D

Yeah watermelons are hot, I just dunno, seems that everyone fricking has them even though the still cost an arm & a leg, same with the aussie acans, just about every store in SF and elsewhere (online and off) seems to have them, so how hard to come by can they really be? Sure it might cost a bit more to ship them, but geeze.

How fast do they grow to be this available?

Hey it comes from living the stores in this area for a while, before the place on Ocean & Dubuce came along there wasn't much in the way of "good" stuff in SF, unless you were extremely lucky.

I only went to the place on Taraval once, but they rubbed me the wrong way the two asian guys (I'm guessing one was working there) seemed more content about finishing their conversation than helping a potentially new customer, as a result never went back.

the ausie is not a third world country ,the diver have to make a descent living.seem like their livestock is more colorful then their counterpart.to me it's worth it .:D

Well, the hardcore collectors and the high end vendors may have Watermelon(s), but that's not *everybody*. Though it may seem that way in the Bay Area :)

I got a piece of the Fragfarmer watermelon only because I went in on a frag with someone, and it's still barely fingernail sized after more than a year, haha.

I was told that coral divers found a new location with watermelon type corals, and that several colonies came in recently.

The Aussie acans are showing up, but some are more colorful than others. And it's not just the cost of shipping. The retailers are having to pay a premium to get them because of the demand right now.

There's an old thead in the LPS forum(?) about "rare" stuff. The Australian reefers and the US reefers were talking about relative rarity of different things. The Aussie guys were drooling over some stuff we had, and the locals were going bug-eyed at the Aussie lords. The Aussie guys were like, "Oh, all the stores here have those for cheap." :)

Well Norman, when I mean "everyone" it seems that way when you can buy a frag at stores that's much bigger than fingernail sized.. but then again, maybe that has to do with those "watermelon type corals" that are coming in.

I hear yah on the perspective thing, it wasn't too long ago when those from about Sacramento to the Atlantic Ocean, were quite jealous at the stuff we would get.

Lapsan: You mean they don't just do it for Beer? :D
