Chalice coral with seahorses?

Good idea? Bad? Your Mileage May Vary?

Thinking of a nice (small to start) chalice frag for my planned sea horse tank, but I cannot find any solid info on whether chalice coral are good or bad with sea horses. I know they have mouths, but whether they'd 'sting' or not I'm unsure. I'm fairly certain fry would be in danger from them, though if I have fry I'd move them into their own QT anyway...

Anyone with experience give them a yay or nay?

I have never put a chalice with a seahorse, but my experience with trying to put seahorses with any kind of coral always results in a dead seahorse.

My current SH tank is what fresh water people call a "community tank." And not only fish, but inverts, corals (no SPS), and lots of macro algae.

The key with coral, so I've read, is to avoid those that sting.

I don't know the scientific name of a "chalice," but there are two web sites that list "threat levels" to Seahorses of various species of corals. Check them to see if the "chalice" is listed.

HTH, and let us know how it goes!

I've read that chalices can have nasty stings although it's not too common to see their stinging take place. Not sure I'd risk it.

Bad idea. Chalice can put out some major sweepers and yes, they do sting.
