Chalice : Do I need to move?

I picked up a Chalice at the LFS last nice. It's about a 1 1/2 inch frag. I placed it in the upper third of my 37 gallon tank. I have 6 x 24w T's. It's about the same height as my Duncan, and I have a favia about 2" lower. I have a Trachy near the bottom.

I don't want it to fry before moving it. Should I move it near bottom or in shade just to be safe?

Never had a chalice before.

ya they naturally grow at sand level. However mine is a little up from sand level on a rock that is growing nice.

sand level kind of coral. They do fine with low-mid light. low to mid flow. if you have to put them up high, do it in a period of 3 months slowly would work.

While they may do ok in the upper portion of the tank, chalices (IME) tend to require light acclimation a little more than some LPS. Also, some chalices do better in high light while others will melt in it. If you chooose to leave it where it is, just keep an eye on it and move it down if notice any bleaching or receding.

Thanks USMC for the info and for your service.

If you do decide to move, just acclimate slowly. Both of mine have the return of a closed loop pushing 2800 gal/hr. it just happens that my pink and blue chalice loves it so much there it I believe it' the reason it has grown so fast. I am not recommending that all chalices will follow that trend. Thanks
