chalice growth experiences

hey everyone just curious on how chalices have grown for them. I know they all grow differently.

ive had all of mine for only around 3 weeks so obviously not to much time for growth

but on a couple of them I have had eyes popping up all over the place! is this a good thing? is it normal for that to happen? or is that just my experience?

thanks for sharing!

I have a pink and baby blue on that is growing to fast buc I have a neon green and dark purple one that doesn't seem like it grows. They are both on opposite side of the tank.

I've found that as small frags, most don't grow very fast, but once they take hold and grow in size, the faster they grow.

I agree. I have a small chalice that seemed to never grow but as it gets larger it seems to have sped up and I feel like I could sit by the tank and watch it grow.

This for sure. Don't ever buy a chalice w/o at least 3 or 5 'eyes.' I have 1 eye of a True Robokaki and while it's healthy it hasn't increased it diameter more than 1mm in months. I have another frag of watermelon, 3 eyes, that has doubled in size...

It seems that way with one of mine, I feel it gets closer to the sand hour by hour.

A lot has to do with the type of chalice as well. I've got a red one that I haven't seen any noticeable growth in 3 months, however it's healthy and color is good. Some just grow faster than others.

chalice will pop eyes some times when they are cut and when you move them to different tanks due to parameter changes

The thinner skeleton ones should also grow faster. I have a large colony of tyree 4 color and the growth has been insane, probably a new eye every week. Other ones are not so fast though, trial and error, kind of like zoanthids.

Mine all sit on the sand bed under LED's. Moderate alternating flow. I sometimes broadcast feed the tank, but never spot feed the chalices themselves. The best growth I've seen is about 3/4" in a months time.

I have good success and colors with med-high flow and med light. Using T-5s over a 75 and they are in the middle of the tank.

curious to see the results of feeding them better coloration/growth or no difference at all, I also keep my chalices med-light and moderate flow under t5's

Both of mine sit on opposite side of the tank under a XM 250w 20k SE MH with high flow both site atop of large live rock pieces. That's why I have one that is starting to look like the pink ghost from PAC man. I have tried to feed mine but it would only take 1-5 Mysis shrimp or the fish would grab it before it could eat. So now I don't bother. I do supplement roughly 200 gal worth of strontium, magnesium, and alk every Sunday. And dose lime water every other day.
