Chalice on Sandbed

I have two chalice frags. One I believe to be a mycedium (seen in pic) and the second may be an echino frag of the "alien eye" variety (purple with glowing green eyes).

Can I put these on the sandbed in a 25 gallon with 2x65 pc bulbs or should they stay where they are midway down the tank? I like the idea of them growing out like plates on the sandbed.

Any advice would be appreciated.

should be no problem. all mine grow on the substrate, but you should make sure that gravel doesn't get up around the edge and cause the tissue to die off. I use a turkey baster to keep them clear after water changes, etc. HTH

let me be more clear ... I know they can live on the substrate. my question is whether my lighting is enough for them to be successful there or if they need to be higher up.

I think so. My alien eye echino is currently on the sand under a frag rack so its not only at the bottom but shaded and it has really taken off. I run 250w MH.
