Chalice question

Hello everyone,
Picked up a chalice from one of our board members about two weeks ago in a trade.
A nice sized plate about 3 inches in diameter.
Purple and blue with pink eyes.

It had been stung/burned by a frogspawn just prior to me getting it.
That area initially was just browning/tan.
It has since turned a little reddish in color and even a few little bubbles developed at one point but have since disappeared.
Not sure if it has gotten any larger.

My question is:

Should I pull the chalice out and use a Dremel took to cut away the stung/burnt parts? Or just let it go?

Second question:

I initially had four strips of T5s. 2 Artinic and 2 bright white.
I had the Chalice about 8 -10 inches from the surface.
Seemed to do fine. Nothing bad.

I have since added two 400W Metal Halides.
I have only been putting them on for 4 hours at a shot from 10am-2pm.

I did not move the chalice. Seemed to be doing great.

THEN....Just today I put the lights on for 6 hours for the first time.
Came home and saw a huge amount of brown diatoms on the sand floor, and the chalice had actually whitened about 1 mm along the one edge.

I know with my Green Digitata they say white tips signify growth, what about Chalice?

Reel back the MHs to 4 hours?

Recommendations?

The front area is the burn area. Just to the right is the area with slighter white edging.
The appearance of brown film is just the photo.

If you have 400 watt metal halide you should move the chalice to the bottom of the tank almost in a partial shaded area.
The red bubbles looks like red slime/cynobacteria. That also looks like it might be on your rocks too. It can grow on dead sections of corals. Blow it off with a turkey baster for now. There are a lot of other remedies for cyno. Do a quick search on the forum.

Thanks for the input. I am with you on the red slime. As far as the live rock, the red algae looking stuff is hard and difficult to scrape off. I thought it was dark red/ purple coraline. Is that still a possibility?

Probably BOTH. The chalice definitely has some hairy like red/purple growing on the dead spot. I will blow that off and lower the chalice. I will keep an eye on it. May need to cut out the dead spot if that doesn't help. Thanks again Mike. Tank is coming along. Have the green leathers(thanks), frogspawn, metallic green torch, green Digitata, purple mushroom, some GSP, Peach Zoa's, and the Chalice. Only coral I have had and lost was a frag of pulsing Xenia.

Yep, took a small power head and blew off the red slime from the chalice.
Dropped it to the bottom of the tank for now.

Will monitor the dead zone. May cut it out if no improvement.

Thanks all!
