Chalice

I purchased by first Chalice (Aliens Eye). I have researched found that some chalice have long tentacles and some have short. I have also read that you can feed some bigger meater food and others you have to feed filter-feeding food. So my question is which category does the Alien Eye fall under. Also seen that they are moderate light and flow, but reading experiences form other reefers they have them in low light almost shaded. I have Aquaticlife 6-bulb fixture with ATI bulbs. Thanks all!

The length of the feeder tentacles at night will depend on the size of the chalice, did you buy a colony or a frag?

I have a bunch of chalices including a frag of alien eye and I target feed twice weekly a combo of reefroids/cyclopeeze.I do this a little while after lights are off, kill all pumps and powerheads and give them a squirt. Wait about 30 minutes for them to finish eating.

Low to moderate flow is the best

Low light is the best, since I'm assuming your T5's arent dimmable like LED's I would place the alien eye under a ledge or very low in the tank (not directly on the sand where sand will be blown on it)

thanks for the info. It's a frag about 2.5 inches in diameter. Got it for $20 at the LFS. Couldn't past it up. Now if the placement, I will have a problem, if I put it under a ledge it will have to be on the sandbed. Now on that note if I was able to go to my LFS maybe get a flat piece of live rock will that work.

my alien eye has a green rim as well. It's so hard to take a good picture with the blues on but when you do 100% white and no blue it doesn't show the colors correctly either.

I place all my chalice on the bottom. Not touching the sand though. I have ATI 8bulb fixture. The feeders get longer as the chalice grows. It takes awhile for them to show when first introduced. Try looking at it at night 2-3 hours after lights out. You will know how aggressive those feeders get

I feed mine coral food like Coral Frenzy. but on occasions, I would feed them mysis shrimp. They get very bulky after.

Thanks everyone for the info. Just one last question. It's in a 120 (4x2x2) with Aquaticlife 6 bulb fixture with ATI bulbs. Do you think I need to keep it on the sandbed or move it up some which my lighting is nowhere near everyone's wattage and output.
