"challice" pics...lets see em!

Alicia & Kenny,

I got a piece of the same chalice from Kenny back around December. Pretty bleached when I got it, but here's a pic of it now. It's more purple than I can get the picture to represent, but not quite as deep as Kenny's original pic!

I run low nutrient, the piece is slightly shaded on the bottom of my tank under 250 watt Radiums

How much lighting and flow do most chalices need?

I see in most pics that they are usually on the bottom

It really varies between the individual chalices. My Tyree Watermelon likes direct light on the bottom third whereas the Bubblegum Monster likes to be shaded. As a broad generalization I would say low flow/low light.

Thanks Emc2, I haven't had many people help me out. I guess everyone is just here to see the pretty pictures

Well, ""challice" pics...lets see em!" is the name of the thread

But to answer your question, like Emc2 was saying, IME, most seem to do better in low flow/med-low light conditions. Only a few "lighter" colored chalices like the pink watermelon seem to like/need higher lights. Still, there are no chalices in my tank higher than half way up, and most are on the bottom

Very beautiful looking chalice indeed!!!!

Looks good Perry. I know it's a low lighter, just wasn't sure about nutrient levels. Maybe I should give you all my pieces to color up

 Kenny - ok, when should I expect the FedEx guy? :D

Just a general question for everyone here and for Alicia on the grape watermelon, is there a way to make the chalice grow new eyes faster? I have a piece of the grape watermelon that's about 2" and it only has 3 eyes. The same holds true for several others, including the Red WM, Mummy Eye, Rasta, the list goes on. My Key Lime and SPStoner WM have crazy number of eyes though.

Can someone please ID my pieces for me? I forgot the names.

Perry, Most excellent color on Kenny's chalice...you have the same pinkish cotton candy color that I do but then some super sweet blue. I definately want it to look like that or the original deeper purple. I moved it to a more shaded spot and will now wait patiently :).

Kenny, I have some super slow growing chalices and some fast ones. it is amazing to see the difference. The Bubble Gum Monster is bigger than my Red watermelon that I have had for 2 years...I have cut a few frags from the red but seriously, the BGM must grow a hundred times faster than the red. I just think some grow fast, others slow, and some suuuuuper slow. Do you direct feed??? I have heard others say they saw an increase in growth when they direct fed regularly. I run a lower nutrient tank and have never direct fed perse, some of my chalices suck down bits of food when it lands on them. Maybe try feeding the super slow ones more direct and see what happens. I also have found that when I cut certain chalices they have a major growth spurt...this is true for the red watermelon.
