Advise please. I am changing from a 150 to 265. The new tank will be put where the existing tank is. Any one have suggestions on how to safely swap them out. Thanks

Im doing the same thing and i have alot of sps and soft coral. i don't want to lose any. are you looking to add any rock at the samt time? im also looking for some good ideas

I have done that a couple of time. Lots of big tupperware, new 55gal trash cans, lots of towels, and an extreme amount of time and stress free environment. Send you wife and kids to grandma's house. Also, do not start drinking beer until you are finished. Good luck.

I am not adding new rock at this time. I have over 250lbs in the tank now. I have alot of corrals also and don't want to lose any. Thanks

Plenty of pre mixed saltwater.. and a vat or tank big enough to hold your whole system. So not only your 150 and 265, but another shallow wide at least 250 gallons for the swap.

I changed out a 280 to a 500 2+ years ago. And forgot about extra holding water. You will not only need the difference but an extra amount to hold the livestock while your refilling.

Time, it will take 2-3 time more than you think. Once you pull the plug, you can't stop till your finished. If this is your first attempt at changing tanks. It's not like setting up a new system. You can't do a little work here and there. You will need everything for the change. Nothing like finding out at 1:30 in the morning your one fitting short. Or some new equipment doesn't fit right, short pipe, wrong pipe etc.. You must plan every little detail.

My change over took 3-days and about 60+ hours

Also 5-6 buddies help alot..

Good Luck

im about to change from a 180 gallon to a 365 in february.i just purchased a holding tank that can hold 275 gallons so im not worried about draining my 180.and ive got a 30 gallon long frag tank thats ready to go to hold all my corals.will i be alright putting my fish in a 37 gallon rubbermaid container just til the swap is over.not sure if i missed anything.please advise if i need to buy anything else.i have 2 of the rubbermaid containers that i was going to use to hold all my rock.just trying to figure out the easiest way.also the 365 tank im buying is set up so i was just going to take water from it and put back in to make up the 180 gallon difference.is this a good idea.ive heard that you cant use the same sand.if you do use it you have to wash it really well.im affraid a new sand bed will disrupt my levels.sorry for so many questions

I've moved three tanks in four years. The most important thing is keeping temps in reason and giving all the corals some kind of flow. When you run out of power heads and you will, have an air pump with manifold and lots of tubing, just bubbling water will keep it moving. As several folks have said, it'll take longer than you think.

... and as manofcoral said, don't drink beer till you're all done
