Change to hypo?

I just started my first half dose of Cupramine yesterday in my QT to cure my fish of crypto while my DT sits fallow.

So far since Ive set up this 75g QT Ive had to do daily 20g water changes to keep ammonia below 1. At this rate Ill need to make up 600 gallons of saltwater for the full 8 week duration I let my DT sit.

I'm told that during treatment its not safe to use anything like Prime to help out on the ammonia.

At this point would it be wise to forgo the copper and go with hypo so I can use a water treatment? I don't mind doing the water changes but that's going to get expensive fast.

Do you have a sponge type filter anywhere in your main tank's system? If so, you can probably cycle your QT almost instantly using the sponge and any HOB filter.

You can use Amquel / Prime with ionic copper....just do a 100% water change to remove the cupramine....and re-dose with ionic copper....then Prime/Amquel away. Hopefully you have some sort of filter media in there right now, it really only takes 2-3 weeks to be established....after that the daily 50% water changes won't be necessary.

And BTW, you can use de-chlorinated tap water in a QT, it won't hurt anything considering nitrate and phosphate aren't a concern in QT....
