charter dvr vs. tivo

well since last year when I was shopping, I noticed that tivo went up in price

anyways, I have searched charter's website for like a half hour now and cant find any prices for their dvr

does anyone use charter's dvr and can say how much it is?

also, does it really matter if I choose charter or tivo?

I'd guess the difference is that with a stand alone Tivo you will have to pay a hefty monthly fee and with Charter you wouldn't.

i have charter DVR.
it's called Moxie.
i've heard they were discontinuing it.
we had to wait for 2 months to finally get ours.
we've been waiting for 2 months for a moxie mate as well. thats charter service for you...
good luck getting it.

i'm satisfied with it. the menus go way to slow for me, but the functionality of it is good. i will never be without some DVR service again! tv is sooooo much better without commercials!

The reason its so hard to get a DVR though Charter is because we are switching from the Motorola (Moxi) to a Samsung version. From what I have heard is that they will be available sometime in January. If you can wait, it'll be worth it. You can call Charter and try and get one, but I'm not sure if there is still a wait or not.

Good Luck!

also i think with Tivo you have to have a phoneline.
i don't have a home phoneline and i don't want to pay $20 a month for it on top of the Tivo fees.

I have a Tivo/DirecTv combo. With the Tivo you are supposed to have a phone line to activate software updates and send pay per view info. I didn't hook up the phone line and it hasn't caused any problems.

Ha Ha.....for me....

I have one DVR, one regualr Digital Box, Internet, and Telephone and my bill is $24/month....

Can't beat that...

TIVO!!!!

I am the TIVO king, I know all about it.
Any questions, come to me.
Here is the deal.
Tivo has the best interface out there. DVR sucks compared to it.
If you have/getting TIVO, all you have to do is call up and tell them you like tivo much better than DVR, but because DVR is cheaper, you wnat the good deal.
I got my TIVO down to 5 dollars a month doing this.
You can hook it into your home network and it works much better than if you have it on a phone line.
PM me if any questions.
Trust me, tivo is the way to go.

houseDJSTL,

I already have digi and internet, Im jsut wondering how much the DVR adds

any idea?

Well, according to my statement. You pay $6.85/month for the DVR Box, $14/month for the DVR Service, and $.11/month for the remote...

So about $22/month, but I'd call just make sure....

does it just plug cat5 into the router or something?

this is going to be the only problem with Tivo so far, is the damn phone line/network thing...I obviously dont have a land line

You can buy either a wired USB to ethernet adapter (10 bucks) or a wireless usb adapter and pick up the signal. Really easy to set up.

I think its hard to beat the Tivo interface. One thing to look for is dual buffers. Tivo runs a 30 minute buffer on each of the two tuners - a very nifty feature that not all DVR's have.

just a stupid point:
DVR = Digital Video Recorder.
Tivo is a DVR brand name system.

i didn't know tivo could be run off the interweb!
