Have you seen it yet? I have watched it 3 times now. Everyone needs to see it. and the HD and 4k streams are stunning. you will need a box of tissues.

I watched it and it was interesting. I like how they explored the life of the reef and sadly death but also included the technical aspect of having to capture images under the sea. I love working with my hands and creating things from scratch. Sadly I'm not doing much these days with my Mechanical Engineering degree The part where he corals turn crazy fluorescent colors is very interesting. I don't think their explanation is 100% correct as there are more factors than just temperature involved but I understand why hey didn't try to explain the chemistry to the non reef hobbyist folk. What those corals are doing seems to be exactly what corals in a ultra low system would do. That explains why so many fail. It's a very fine line between life and death.

I agree. I'm not a scientist nor a certified reef expert. But I was a little put off by the heavy push on global warming. Personally not totally convinced. And focusing almost exclusively a 2-3 temp swing. Most of us reefers experience 6-8 degree swings depending on the time of year and region we live in. I normally have a 2-3 degree daily and I know this also happens daily in nature. I think there are a lot of other factors and would rather these typo of semi documentaries expound a little more than possibly just pushing one or two agendas. I'm sure there are many other factors that cause this.
I remember many many years ago when they talked about the ozone layer depleting and could never be replaced. Turned out to be wrong. Mother Nature is a powerful beast. Granted we shouldn't abuse her to the degree we do. She will put us in our place one day.

Please don't misunderstand my statement above. Global warming is part of the problem but there is more to it than just that. I completely understand why they stuck to the global warming explanation but we all knwo it's not just that. It is simply the easiest way to explain what's happening without breaking out the whiteboard and going all chemistry geek on people. That's where you loose your audience.

Sry for maybe the miss understanding. My statement about global warming had nothing to do with anything you wrote.

The statement I made about global warming is my own thought.
I have a little issue when scientists or political parties making statements as facts to the general public when they are not telling the whole truth for people to formulate there own understanding. Last I checked global warming technically is a theory and not a law. It has been proven the earth has gone through higher and lower temps since before man. Not saying we are not contributing to the theory. But until it becomes an absolute fact or law I have a disliking for any public figure or institution that pushes an agenda as complete fact.

Hope this doesn't rash some people to much. Someone is welcome to place info in here to show hard evidence. Personally I can't even listen to regular news anymore because most of it is more agenda than facts. I like the old boring days of news. This is what happened, that's all we know at this time.

Wasnt trying to start a debate on global warming.... the cinematography is so amazing in this film its a must see. You can watch it with the volume off and still be amazed.

Was just about to make a thread on this. Saw this last night and didnt finish till 1am :(

For those interested understand 70% of the documentary is really about them filming the documentary and the equipment used. If your not really a reef enthusiast then skip to the last 5min and you get the whole story/actual video they filmed.

Actually a sad film but did anyone else notice that the places they choose to film already STARTED with bleaching. To me this didn't make the full impact of the film. In an ironic way, i would have rather seen fully healthy coral go through the death process. To me, all i saw was already dead coral decaying....

(i dont want to take away from the important point that we need to start changing our habits on this earth which i 100% follow the evidence for)
