cheap 175w se bulbs

i'm looking for an inexpensive (cheap) halide bulb
for a pendant
14000k most likely
there is so much info on the reef sites its hard to sift through
ive seen cheap bulbs on ebay from seller "lights64" who
is local they say thier bulbs are "PLUS" brand
ive also read in threads about reef optix brand cheap bulbs

anyone have any experiences with cheap bulbs?
if i cant find enough info i guess i'll go with a more expensive bulb

What's "cheap"? You can get the Reeflux 12ks for around $60 or less and they are a really nice bulb (very blue if you run them on SE 175 magnetic ballasts).

I have the 250W Reeflux 12Ks. Best bulb I've ever used (used Ushio, BLV, AB and Iwaki).

Yes, it is an unfortunate word. If you want the "cheapest" bulb, go to ebay and search "175 watt halide" and we all wish you luck.

If you want a great bulb at a great price, contact Premium for the Reeflux. Though you will get myriad recommendations that differ from mine on this. Some will recommend Iwaki, others (inexplicably) XM, etc.

Ostrow - Dragonfish's response was another quote from the movie referenced in revenge's signature. I don't believe it was directed at your response.


revenge - There are many on this board who swear by the Reeflux bulbs. I run 2 of them now (over a FOWLR - long story) on PFO 175 magnetic ballasts and there are so blue that I turned off the actinics. I run the 250 watt DE 12k versions on my reef (on HQI ballasts) and they are not nearly as blue, not like the Phoenix bulbs I replaced. IMO they have provided much better PAR value and I have experienced much better growth with the Reeflux than with the Phoenix bulbs.

If you don't have a LFS that carries them, Premium is the best place I know to order them.

Didn't think it was directed at me. I think he used the quote to question revenge's repeated use of "cheap". If not, he should have!

cheap = inexpensive
whoever thinks "You get what you pay for"
is not correct in a general sense
while many times this is the case
people get ripped off everyday
value is the most important thing so obviously
reeflux has a good value.

i was just curious if anyone had tried the cheaper
bulbs available
i am not convinced that just because something costs more that it is better
if peoples experiences do thats a cifferent story
so when i say "cheap"
i guess i mean that the plus bulb costs about 31$ shipped
the reeflux is twice that before shipping
thats what makes the ebay bulb "cheap"
