Im looking for a local supplier of cheap pourous base rock, Ive found 2.00 a lb, anyone know any cheaper? Looking for roughly 40-50 lbs, I need half to be decent sized pieces, the rest can be smaller

There is a place off forsyth road here in orlando that does landscaping stuff. I have purchased rock from them for my freshwater stuff. Wonder if they have anything that will work. Its not saltwater rock, but you could probably use it once its been soaked real good.

you should never use rock that isnt made for salt water aquariums- salt water breaks down the rock and shoots up the ph= and also the salt water rock buffers the tank a little - the store is on the way to the beach off of international speed blvd. you have to make a left right where there is a old crispy cream donut. it is by a bp gas station maybe you could find either the crispy creams or bp on there website

I know the area and will go check it out this week, thanks!

MFP, Im not sure of what kind of rock the have, I have seen ocean type base rock at garden stores, but have alos seen some pretty bad chemicals and stuff spilled all over the area they are storeing it. I guess its always a risk. I also have heard that some freshwater rocks will leech high phosphates, havent seen it with my own eyes but worth watching.

Also, you want rock that is very porous, not solid dense heavy stuff. Needs to be able to have water slowly percolate through it to develop the bacterial colonies that eventually will help keep the tank water clean.

Yodahart had some dried out rock a while back, you might want to contact him but may have to do it through the ORCA web site rather than here.

Verve has a bunch of great rock that he is selling for a pretty decent price.
