Most cost efficient programmable LED Light for a 48x24x12 tank that will mainly house LPS and Softies?
Programmable? Maybe Orbit Marine, especially with just a 12" deep tank.I don't have any experiences with the 'pro' line, but IIRC it is 50% more expensive for a 100% increase in watts.
if I recal=IIRC.
Yes, Orbit Marine is programmable (2 channel on/off and ramping). It does have 60deg optics so for 24" you may want to buy two. The next step up in light types, in my mind, are better when it comes to lighting but can't ramp (chinese black boxes).
I have two orbit marine pros on my 75 gallon and I am pleased with them. The easy programmability is nice (I just use a preset though). I have heard some bad things but my corals seem to like it so far.

I use two 48 fixtures. I find that one doesn't have enough spread to cover the tank front to back.oh nice, you use two 24 fixtures

I have two it2040s, similar two the vipar leds, on a 4 foot 100g. They are a foot over the tank and very bright, easily programmable. Oceanrevive are similar as well. Both much more powerful than Current.
Edit: I did change out some of the leds to a spectrum more to my liking, blue and uv and got rid of some whites and others. Nice thing about the black boxes are they are easy to customize.
marine orbit is not strong enough for sps . maybe a softie tank if its not to deep..
I would search amazon for Programmable led lights i use visparspectra lights.. They have been great.
It just depends on what you mean by programmable .

I Have 5 of there and have been flawless over 2 years old i believe...
The ocean revive lights are similar with same controller but a much slimmer profile
OceanRevive makes a good fixture, your tank will require two. They can be found in the range of $160.00 each new, or $120 each used. They will work great for what you have planned. Fully programmable with timers and all. Great reports of both growth and color. Even the SPS folks use them.
You have no idea how glad I am to read this after all the posts I have read about people saying my lights aren't strong enough for SPS.I have the orbit Marine on a 12" deep tank and it is fine. I only have SPS and get good growth. They are programmable and also have cool features like storms and partial sun features. However, I do agree that you will need 2 over a 24" wide tank.
If you go blackbox I heard great things about SB Reeflights.
